I did not get a chance to get out this week on the Delta, we made out annual trip to Lake Pardee instead. I like to get a change in scenery a couple times a year. It was beautiful up there. We caught one top water fish (an 8 pounder on a Go-2-Minnow) and 6 more fish on Jigs up to 6 pounds. The Smallies are just starting to make beds, but none were locked on. We did catch 3 little guys, the other 4 were Largemouth’s
The Delta fishing is good right now. Water is staying in the low 60’s and the bass are moving up to bed. There are a few already on, but I would expect the major move up on the next full moon (April 9th). You can catch fish on just about any bait you like right now. Senko’s, Jigs, Chatter baits, Spinner baits, Crank baits to name a few. There are also some top water fish already being caught! Next weekend there is a Won Bass Super team tournament on the Delta out of Russo’s Marina. There will be some huge bags of bass weighed in and some big ones too! Come on out and win some money while you having fun. We will see you there.
Good fishing,
Mike

Well is been a couple of weeks since my last entry. I went to the San Mateo and the Sacramento ISE shows. They were good. The new Dobyns rods are Unreal! He sure hit a home run with them! The whole show was a buzz about the rods. The roundtable was a lot of fun as usual. Kent and the panel was a riot. And the new Black Dog Lunker Punkers???? Forget about ever needing a spook ever again! The new 6″ injected model is the shit! Along with the 8″ and the monster 10″ they have it covered now.
On Saturday 1-17-09 I fished the 1st Delta ABA tournament of the year. My partner Bobby Delamater was working the Sac show for Lowrance so I had to fish it alone. After running through 30 minutes of fog, I came to my first spot where I had been catching them in them a couple of weeks prior. I fished it for about 45 minutes with the ripbait and dropshot which had been working, but didn’t get a single bite! I didn’t think the fish had left, so I just kept changing up baits until I found something they would eat. That turned out to be the new Bobby D’s citrus shad chatterbait. I caught 3 right off the bat with it, then hit a dry spell. After an hour with no bites and about 1 mile of bank fished, I finally caught 2 more keepers for fill my limit. They were all in the 2 1/2 - 3 pound range. I didn’t feel like that spot held any bigger fish and it was noon on a sunny day, so I decided to go flip some tullies looking for some big girls moving up in the warming shallows. The water was still 48 degrees! I didn’t get another bite the rest of the day! That’s the way it goes this time of year. There aren’t many up shallow, but they will be the better fish if you can just get bite. As I head into the weigh in, I hear people talking about how tough the bite was so I didn’t feel so bad about my day. When it was all said and done I ended up in 5th place with 13.94 pounds. There was only 7 limits caught out of 34 teams! Defiantly a tough winter bite on the Delta. I earned $250 and some great points to start off the new season. I am looking forward to next month when the bite should be a little better and I will have my partner back! For now, I’m still stuck in Washington working
Good Fishing!

I am sitting at the Spokane airport on the way back to the bay area as I write this. I have been working up here since October. It has really cut into my fishing time! I cant wait to get back on the water as the new tournament season starts. I will be going to the ISE show tomorrow to check out the new Dobyns rods! Can’t wait to get my hands on some of those. They are high end rods. Nothing like whats on the rack at your local tackle shop. Gary has totally redesigned the rods with all of the best materials. They are super sensitive and super light! I also am looking forward to seeing and getting out with some of the new injected Lunker Punkers! These are the bomb! The old Punkers were great, but the new ones are plastic with rattles in them to call up those big bass and stripers from near and far! And on those choppy days…..Better hold on!
I won’t be able to get out on the river this weekend, but next weekend the ABA Delta teams start up. Like I said, I haven’t got much time on the water as of late, but the last couple of trips produced 20+ pound bags so I am optimistic for a good day.
I’ll post a report of the ISE on Monday on my way back up to Washington.
Good fishing, Mike
